  • Items you may need to cancel (such as milk deliveries and meals on wheels).
  • Items that may need to be returned (such as passports and driving license).
  • If the property is unoccupied - For example, ensure windows and doors are locked and secure.

Registration of a Death

In England and Wales, a death must be registered by the Registrar of Births and Deaths for the area in which the death occurred. If you are unsure whether or not you have authority to register the death, we will advise you. The death must be registered within 5 days. We can also provide you with information on things you will need to take with you, what they will require and additional details.

Further Help

In certain circumstance the next-of-kin can receive help with the costs of the funeral from the Social Fund(Claims must be within 3 months of death).
